ICARE Volunteer Programs and Opportunities

ICARE relies heavily upon volunteer staff to provide services.  There are two main types of volunteers: Direct Client Service and Special Events volunteers. Each offers different opportunities and have different requirements.

Direct Client Service

  • Crisis Intervention - Provide information and referrals, phone and walk-in counseling, and other forms of crisis intervention during office hours.
  • Transportation - Offer transportation and run errands for clients, may include emotional support and companionship as needed.
  • Practical Support - Assist with household chores, yard work, and meal preparation. May include emotional support and companionship.
  • Home/Hospital Visitation - Provide emotional support and companionship. Usually a short term commitment.
  • Buddy Program - Provide regular, ongoing emotional and social support and companionship to a specific individual with HIV/AIDS. May include advocacy, transportation, and practical support.
  • Care Team Member - In a team setting, provide regular emotional and social support, companionship and practical support.

Special Events

  • Administrative Assistant - Assist with various organizational and clerical needs. Help coordinate upcoming events.
  • Newsletter - Organize layout, assist with research and writing, and conduct interviews.
  • Resource Library - Organize and maintain library, locate relevant material, create a list of online services.
  • Fundraising - Help with public mailing, set up, clean up, and merchandise sales.
  • Other Services - Assist with information booths, provide computer support, maintain ICARE office.

ICARE Volunteer Programs Requirements

Special Events Volunteer

  • Fill out and application.
  • Attend the Volunteer Information and Screening Meeting.
  • Interview with the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend two inservices a year to remain active.
  • Attend Special Events Orientation.

Direct Services Volunteer

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Fill out an application.
  • Attend the Volunteer Information and Screening Meeting.
  • Interview with the Program Coordinator.
  • Commit to 9 months of volunteer services.
  • Attend 32 hour Direct Services training.
  • Attend post training orientation.
  • Attend 5 educational inservices throughout the year to remain active.
  • Attend mandatory volunteer meetings.
